Children of God — on a journey Home

• John 1:12 — To all who received Him, He gave the right to become children of God

• 1 Peter 2:11 — We are foreigners and exiles in this world (this world is not our home)

• Philippians 3:20 — Our citizenship is in heaven

• Matthew 6:10 — Your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven (heaven on earth)

Repentance — Turning to Jesus to regain paradise

• Acts 3:19 — Repent and turn to God, so that times of refreshing may come (restoration language)

• Romans 5:19 — Through the obedience of the one man, many will be made righteous (the reversal of Adam)

• Revelation 2:7 — To the one who overcomes I will give the right to eat from the tree of life (paradise regained)

The Fall — Adam, disobedience, original sin

• Genesis 2:16-17 — The test of obedience in the garden

• Romans 5:12 — Sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin

• Romans 5:19 — Through the disobedience of one man, many were made sinners

• Genesis 3:23-24 — So God banished him from the Garden of Eden (the fall into exile)

Abraham — Covenant of Faith

• Genesis 12:1-3 — The Lord called Abram and established the covenant of blessing

• Romans 4:3 — Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness

• Galatians 3:6-9 — Abraham is the father of all who believe (faith as the covenant’s core)

• Hebrews 11:8-10 — Abraham obeyed and went, looking forward to the city with foundations (the journey motif)

Moses — The Law as mercy and guidance

• Exodus 20:1-17 — The giving of the Ten Commandments

• Galatians 3:24 — The law was our guardian to lead us to Christ (law as mercy, not just rule)

• Romans 5:20 — The law was added so that trespass might increase — but grace increased all the more

• Deuteronomy 5:29 — Oh that their hearts would be inclined to fear me and keep my commands always (God’s longing behind the law)
